Definition of Machine centers

It is a machine that is for both milling and hole making on variety of shapes. The history of machine centres started in 1958 when Kearney & Trecker Corp of the U.S. first made the practical prototype of fully functional machining centres whose name was given "Milwaukee-Matic Model II". Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. or (MHI) did bring a heavy impact for these machines from time to time as around 1958 they began to study the introduction of CNCs into machining centers and due to the increasing needs, they developed many machining centers by adding more useful features to it.

One of the unique features of machine centres is the tool changer which moves the tools in rapid sequence from storage to spindle. With the use of rotary table’s, one side of work piece or multiple work pieces can be built without any human intervention. These rotary tables have four axes of motion. But for the horizontal machining centre with horizontal spindle is better suited for larger and more complex work pieces. Like the vertical ones, horizontal centres also have multiple axes table movements which rotate to all four sides. But in the case of the universal machining centre, both the types (horizontal and vertical) are present for gaining a larger variety of angles by the combination of tilts and swivels of the spindles.
