Definition of presses

A press refers to a machine for forming (deep drawing) metal sheets (blanks). The working speed of a press depends on the type of press. For example, a hydraulic press can have an almost constant and often even controllable operating speed over the entire stroke. Eccentric and crank presses exhibit a very low operating speed at their dead centers, i.e. at the highest reversal point TDC and at the very bottom at the operating point UT. Since, for example, deep drawing of components may only be carried out at speeds that are not too high, only some types of presses can be used for this process. Presses, also known as metalworking machines, are used to produce large quantities of uniform products with a desired shape in a short time.
