Dixi was founded in Le Locle in 1904 and originally manufactured special machines for the watch industry, including high-precision punching machines with an accuracy of 0.01 millimeters. The company subsequently specialized in precision mechanics for various industrial applications.

In 2007, Dixi sold its subsidiary Dixi Machines SA, which specializes in the manufacture of ultra-high-precision machines, to the Japanese machine tool manufacturer DMG Mori Seiki Co.
