It is a measuring tool used for balancing mostly rotating machine parts. The machine comprises of mainly two rigid pedestals and on top a mounting platform with suspensions and bearings. It is a sonic machine that can tell which part of the material is unbalanced exactly where to add and remove weights to properly balance the parts. This is possible as when the unit or the material which is undergoing this test is bolted to the platform and is rotated either with an end-drive or belt-air, the vibration of the suspension is detected by couple of sensors which is rotated and that information is used to balance the unit properly. The sensors may depend on what type of balancing machine is being used as it can be of two types which are soft bearings and hard bearings. Rotating parts like the fans, turbines, disc brakes, propellers, electric motors etc., are such units or materials which are tested in these machines.
Processing of a Balancing Machine
While the unit or rotating part is being tested on the bearings, the suspension is attached with a vibration sensor which works by moving a magnet with closure of a fixed coil which generates voltage in proportion to the velocity produced from the vibration from the rotating part. As there are two types of balancing machines, many vibration measuring tools are used like sometimes accelerometers are used for measuring the acceleration of the vibration, a photocell, proximity sensor, and encoder are also used to derive the rotational speed as well as the relative phase of the rotating part. Then by calculating the information from the relative phase of the rotating part or the vibration of the rotating part to determine the amount of movement in one rotation of the part gives the amount of unbalance existing in the unit which is being tested. Also the difference between the phase and the vibration peak gives the information about the balancing material.
